One summer, I was working as a maid in a mansion. It was a nice place, but I couldn’t help but feel a little claustrophobic. I was stuck in a room with four other maids, all of us working around the clock to keep the place clean.
One day, I was cleaning the windows. I was just about to finish when I saw something out the window that made my heart stop. It was a beautiful mauve sunrise, but instead of seeing the bright colors, I saw the sun’s bloody image reflected in the window.
I couldn’t believe it. I had been working in that room for months, and I had never seen anything like that before. But then I remembered what the maid who had started the job before me had said. She had told me that the sun was always bloody in the mauve dawns.
I couldn’t stop thinking about the sunrise, and I started to feel really sick. I didn’t know what to do, so I just stuck with my cleaning. But the closer the sun got to the horizon, the sicker I felt.
By the time the sun had set, I was lying on the floor, passed out. I woke up to find the room filled with darkness. I could hear the other maids screaming, and I got up to try to help them. But when I got to the door, it was locked.
The sun had never looked so bloody to me before.
